Prize winning authors James Herbert, Lucy Caldwell and Andrew Simms are amongst a cast of high-profile writers, poets and journalists who will be lighting up Hendon at the North London Literary Festival on 26-27 March 2013.
Held at Middlesex University, the two-day festival will feature readings, publishing workshops, and a multitude of writing competitions for all to join. Embracing new technologies will be a focus for the festival as the publishing industry begins its radical shift towards the online market and away from 400 years of print tradition.
Faber- one of London's leading publishing houses- will be chairing a discussion group on the direction in which the industry is headed, inviting any questions the public may have for them.
The free two day festival will also feature speed pitching: an innovative new idea that is like speed dating. It offers a chance for all attendees to pitch their ideas to a group of top London agents and receive feedback on how marketable their work could be in the current publishing environment.
In 2013, James Herbert will be in his 40th year of publishing and North London Literary Festival will be welcoming him with open arms. One of the most respected British horror writers of the 20th Century with over 40 million global sales, a movie adaptation of The Rats and extremely positive reviews of his recent novels; Herbert will be reviewing his long tenure in and among the Horror elite.
James Herbert will be joined by Andrew Simms and Lucy Caldwell whose book All the Beggars Riding has been chosen for the Belfast One Book One City campaign which is aiming to get everyone in the city of Belfast reading and talking about the same book for one month. Simms is the author of such noted works as Ecological Debt: Global Warming and the Wealth of Nations (2009) and Tescopoly: How One Shop Came Out on Top and Why it Matters (2007), he has been described as a ‘master of progressive thinking’ and will be offering his expertise on the ideas on The Green Belt, global warming and poverty reduction.
Josie Barnard, who will be speaking at the festival about her novel 'The Book of Friendship' said: 'This is going to be one of the most exciting literary events in London this year. The festival is making full use of its position in the community to create a modern and inspiring programme.'
The North London Literary Festival will be embracing new methods of online communication to keep the public updated like never before with a new festival app, Facebook, Twitter and the North London Literary Festival website to provide daily updates.
