Sarah HoHR Manager, A Space Station

BA Business Administration, 1997

Tell us about what you do as HR Manager at Space Station.

Every day is different at Space Station, which is why I enjoy my job so much.  I am responsible for all areas of the function, from recruitment and retention, to reward and performance management.

What made you choose to study BA Business Administration at Middlesex?

I studied Business Studies at College and wanted a course that would follow on from that.  I liked the University (it’s not too large, and had a good feel when I visited) and the course seemed interesting and diverse.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

The variety of the course, I came out with a broad range of learning, from Economics (not my best subject!) to Human Resources, which I specialised in later in the course.

What is your fondest memory of life at Middlesex?

Making some wonderful friends – and the cheese and coleslaw baguettes!

How did your course and time at Middlesex help you to get where you are professionally today?

It gave me a thirst for learning and improving myself.  I later went on to study for my CIPD and now have a career I thoroughly enjoy.

What skills have been most valuable in your career so far and how have you developed these?

Middlesex University gave me a great introduction to the HR function, which I have been working on ever since.

What are the top three career tips you would give to current students and recent graduates?

  1. Get some work experience – this helps prove your work ethic and puts you one step ahead of the competition.
  2. Never stop learning.
  3. Enjoy what you do.

What does the future hold for you?

Who Knows!
