Research activities

Dr Mapp is involved in several research areas, including:

The development of the Intelligent Edge Environment (IEE). This work is being done with Dr Gayathri Karthick (PhD Middlesex 2022) from York St John University and Professor Jon Crowcroft from the University of Cambridge.

The design of new traffic routing algorithms using Queuing Theory Models.  This is a key part of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)

New Low Latency Transport Protocols. Glenford has developed a new transport protocol called the Simple Lightweight Transport Protocol (SLTP) to support vehicular networking.

Security and Privacy Issues in mHealth and eHealth. Glenford works on this with Dr Carlisle George.

Glenford has taught several modules in Operating Systems, Networking, and Security over the years. For the 2025-26 Academic Year, he will be teaching:

Biography

Dr Glenford Mapp is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Middlesex University, London. His expertise is in vehicular, mobile, and distributed systems. He has co-authored over 150 publications in refereed conferences and journals. Glenford received a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, UK, in 1992, an MEng in Computer Engineering (Distinction in Thesis) from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, in 1985, and a BSc in Electrical Engineering (First Class Honours) from the University of the West Indies in 1982. 

In 2019, Dr Mapp was given the Amity Unity Distinguished Researcher Award for Significant Contributions in the field of Networking. In 2021,  he was made a member of the College of Expert Reviewers for the European Science Foundation. In 2025, Glenford was appointed to the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Network  Security and Its Applications (IJNSA). 

Glenford was the Leader of the MDX VANET Research Group for many years. This group built three Connected Vehicle (CV) testbeds funded by the Department for Transport. It is also involved in creating a heterogeneous vehicle tested with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at its headquarters in Leamington Spa,
