Research activities
Michael's background is in Commercial and Leisure based Adaptive Reuse projects which focus on Sustainable Practice within the Construction Industry. In 2021 he won the 'Conversations about Climate Change' competition with his work being exhibited at the Building Center in London. Michael's practice has been included in many publications around the world.
His technical design and construction knowledge has led to an increasing focus on green practice and sustainabilty throughout the modules he writes and teaches. Michael presented a paper at the Annual Teaching and Learning Conference 2023, which highlighted the links between student's work, sustainability and future proofing of skills, this was based on the Project ArCc project, sponsored by the British Council, which represented 13 countries.
Michael is a member of Barnet Council's Cultural Advisory Group and has hosted several community events with Middlesex's local borough about community engagement and the built environment.
Michael is interested in how technology affects and enables our understanding of space. In 2018 he worked on 'Digital Showscapes' presenting Final Year Interior Design student's work in VR. He has recently published a paper on how emerging digital technologies can be used as teaching tools, enabling new forms of architectural representation to be communicated to the public.
