  • Biography

Tunch Akmandor is a doctoral researcher in Drug Delivery and Cancer Immunotherapy at Middlesex University, with a multidisciplinary academic and professional background spanning biomedical science, clinical pathology, oncology, translational research, and healthcare management. His PhD research focuses on the design, fabrication, characterisation, and translational evaluation of dissolvable sugar-based microneedle systems for transdermal immunotherapy, with particular emphasis on cytokine delivery, immune modulation, and keratinocyte carcinomas.

He brings strong translational and laboratory expertise, including microneedle fabrication, biomaterials engineering, nanoparticle systems, cytokine formulation, LC-MS analysis, ELISA-based bioactivity assessment, skin penetration modelling, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and clinical diagnostics. His research approach integrates experimental science with translational oncology, immunology, and clinical relevance, supporting the development of clinically applicable drug delivery platforms.

Alongside his doctoral research, he works as a Biomedical Scientist in Cellular Pathology and Advanced Diagnostics and is actively involved in academic teaching, supervision, research development, quality assurance, and assessment across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He has extensive experience in dissertation supervision, curriculum development, research design, and interdisciplinary academic collaboration.

He is also an active member of the UKICRS Graduate Network Committee, serving as a University Representative, contributing to national postgraduate researcher engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, research capacity building, and doctoral researcher development within the UK clinical and translational research ecosystem.

His academic interests lie at the intersection of translational oncology, immunotherapy, drug delivery systems, clinical pathology, global health, and healthcare education, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research, clinical translation, and real-world healthcare impact.
