Teaching apprenticeships

We invite you to work with us to train qualified teachers for your education setting through our apprenticeship routes. We'll develop a partnership with you to deliver a programme that effectively integrates on and off-the job professional learning to better meet your needs. Together we can develop highly skilled teachers who are motivated to educate young people to achieve the highest possible standards.

Our teaching expertise

60+ years of teacher training experience

We've been involved in teacher training since the 1950s. In that time, our Education Department has established their reputation for high-quality teaching and learning.

Middlesex offers a number of initial teacher education courses, which for primary age include a three-year BA in Primary Education, the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), and salaried routes, including a postgraduate teacher apprenticeship programme. For secondary teachers these include the PGCE, salaried routes and teacher apprenticeship programme.

We also offer two Teacher apprenticeship routes. An undergraduate route and a postgraduate route for those who have already hold an appropriate undergraduate degree.

Ofsted rated initial teacher training courses as ‘outstanding’ in their newly released report

Middlesex University’s initial teacher training courses have been given a glowing ranking from Ofsted with its secondary age courses rated as ‘outstanding’.

Middlesex University goes ‘out of its way’ to support trainees on their journey to become qualified teachers, while subject tutors are experts in their field and build trainees’ learning in a logical order, the report added. Inspectors also praised the consistency of mentoring and strong communication between partner schools and university staff and the comprehensive range of documents to support schools who host trainees.

Primary and secondary ITE courses place a strong focus on enabling trainees to apply what they have learned at the centre to the everyday classroom, Ofsted reported. They added trainee teachers are prepared for the realities of teaching and gain the expertise to foster curiosity and a love of learning in the pupils that they teach.

Developing confident, qualified teachers through school-based learning and academic study

Teacher Degree Apprentices work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while gaining hands-on experience in the classroom. Combining academic study with school-based training, this route supports aspiring teachers—particularly teaching assistants and career changers—to enter the profession through a salaried, debt-free pathway designed around employer needs.
