Students celebrate their graduation

Middlesex ranked 5th out of 31 universities in London for student positivity

Middlesex University’s scores for learning and teaching in the National Student Survey (NSS) have improved again, after its best ever results in 2024.

As well as being ranked 5th out of 31 universities in London, Middlesex also exceeded the Office for Student (OfS) benchmark in six of the seven NSS themes. Middlesex performed better than the sector average for five out of seven themes. This ranking excludes small and specialist providers with fewer than 1000 students taking part in the NSS.

These strong results demonstrate that students have an excellent undergraduate experience at the University and highlight the hard work of academics, staff and Middlesex University Students’ Union (MDXSU).

Middlesex had a response rate of 82%, which matches last year’s record response rate, and is much higher than the sector average of 71%.

Key results for MDX include

  • 4th in London for the quality of our assessments and feedback
  • 4th in London for learning opportunities
  • 5th in London for listening to student voice

"These strong results are a real testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students. We are very pleased to have improved our scores for the delivery of our teaching and learning again - after our best ever results in 2024 - especially for our high quality assessment and feedback. We are also delighted to be above the sector benchmark in six out of seven areas. Our response rate of 82%, above the sector average, shows that these results represent the views of students across our community.

"This achievement is particularly meaningful because it comes directly from our students themselves, and builds on our recent successes in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2025 and Uni Compare Rankings 2026. These are not just numbers – they tell us that our students think our teaching and support are excellent quality and that we are helping them to develop the skills they need for their futures.

We will build on this momentum as we grow Middlesex's reputation for excellent education, both here in north London and as a global University."
