Our green and sustainable campus

At Middlesex, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s part of everyday campus life. From bee hives and green walls to bike hire and free water refill stations, we’re building a greener future together. We’ve signed the United Nations Sustainable Development Accord and continue to work hard to reduce our impact. These are just some of our current initiatives:

  • Plastic bottles: Our free water refill machines have saved more than 29,000 plastic bottles.
  • Waste management: We maximise recycling across the campus including hazardous waste.
  • Energy management: We use low carbon electricity, solar panels, rainwater harvesting and more.
  • Bike Hire: Our MDXFreeWheelers, free parking, free showering and changing facilities support sustainable travel.
  • Biodiversity: Green walls, green roofs, bee hives, minimal grass cutting, pond refurbishment and hedgehog boxes are just some of our biodiversity initiatives.
  • Food: We use ethical and sustainable products wherever we can and source local, fresh and seasonal food as often as possible.
