English language requirements for international students

Check if your English is the standard required for your course

As part of the application process, you will need to provide recent evidence that your spoken and written English is up to the standard required for your course. This is especially important if you are not a national of a majority English speaking country* or you haven't completed a degree in English.

How to provide evidence of your English

The most common way to provide evidence of your English is with the IELTS Academic test.

Required IELTS scores

  • Undergraduate (bachelor) programmes - 6.0 (with minimum 5.5 in all components)
  • Postgraduate (masters) programmes - 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all components)

We accept a wide range of other language tests but please ensure that your test results are in date when you make your application.

Some courses may require a higher score so check your course page for your specific requirements.

*Majority English speaking countries

We define these as Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom and USA.
