Midwifery - course specific information

If you are holding an offer for this programme, you will be required to undertake an OH screening for your placement experience.

Please be aware of UK Government policy about the need to be fully vaccinated before you commence your programme with us in September.

The OH screening is carried out for various purposes.

  • To confirm your fitness to complete the course, including placements
  • To indicate where additional support and adjustments are required for you to complete the placement aspects of your course
  • To confirm your fitness for employment in midwifery.

You will need to undertake your OH check with Innovate Healthcare.

Innovate Healthcare will send you an email invitation to complete your OH questionnaire via an online system. The email sender will be donotreply@innovatehmg.co.uk.

Please check your junk/spam folder if you have not received this email.

Complete the OH questionnaire as fully as possible and to the best of your knowledge. Include any immunisation and medical history you have available to you or that you can obtain from your GP.

You must complete your OH questionnaire as soon as possible to avoid any delays in starting your placement.

After you complete your OH questionnaire, you might be contacted by Innovate Healthcare to discuss any health information you’ve shared.

If needed, they will offer you a confidential phone or video call appointment with one of their health professionals. You’ll receive an email from donotreply@innovatehmg.co.uk with a link to book this appointment, but only if it’s necessary. Not everyone will be contacted.

Vaccinations

If you need vaccinations, you will get an email from donotreply@innovatehmg.co.uk with a link to book an appointment. These will take place at StoneX with their clinical vaccinations team.

You may also need to attend follow-up appointments to complete your vaccination course. It is very important that you go to all of your appointments to meet your course requirements.

What to bring to your vaccination appointment

  • Bring a form of photo ID, such as your passport, driver’s license or Middlesex University student ID card if you have received one
  • Bring proof of any medication you are currently taking
  • Your medical records.

Before your vaccination appointment

  • Make sure you eat and drink beforehand, unless you have been told not to
  • Give yourself enough time to get to the appointment. If you are late, you will not be seen
  • You may need a blood test or an injection during your appointment.

If you cannot attend your appointment, you must contact Innovate Healthcare directly at least 48 hours in advance of your appointment.

If you are likely to miss your scheduled OH appointment, please contact Innovate Healthcare.

If you do not attend your appointment or inform Innovate Healthcare within 48 hours, a ‘did not attend’ (DNA) will be marked on your OH record.

The University are notified of this and are charged.

Frequent DNA appointments are recorded by the University and can be escalated, which may have implications on your placement.

Once your OH questionnaire has been reviewed, Innovate Healthcare will provide your clearance status directly to the University. You will not be allowed to attend placements without being OH cleared.

If you are OH cleared with adjustments / recommendations, these will need to be reviewed by the University. This will ensure any reasonable adjustments can be effectively implemented to enable you to undertake your programme of study safely.

If you require vaccinations and/or blood work, you must attend these appointments as they are necessary for the nature of your programme.

Having HIV, Hepatitis B or C will not hinder you becoming a student midwife. However, there may be restrictions on certain types of practice experience.

Further information is available from GOV.UK.
