Student work example of sound and screen facilities

Department of Sound and Screen

The Department of Sound and Screen offers a dynamic portfolio of courses across music, sound, film, animation and games, combining creative practice with screen-based technologies and industry-focused learning.

You'll learn from experienced academics and creative practitioners, using professional equipment, technologies and industry standard facilities to develop your work. Through practical projects, you'll apply what you learn and build confidence in your chosen discipline.

Interdisciplinary collaboration is core to how we teach. You'll work with others across disciplines, bringing different skills and perspectives to your projects, and building the communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills employers actually look for.

From live industry briefs to placements, guest sessions and professional collaborations, you'll gain practical experience that builds your portfolio, grows your industry connections, and gives you real insight into professional creative practice.

Our research students and staff explore topics ranging from punk to publishing, clowns to copyright, arts and AI. That same curiosity shapes your teaching - encouraging you to experiment, question established approaches, and think critically about a creative landscape that's constantly changing.

We work with professional partners including Film Fixer, Screen London Barnet, Troubadour Studios and the North London Conservatoire, aiming to foster a culture that transforms lives. You'll connect with these partners directly, building networks and insight that carry you into your next step in the creative industries - graduating with practical experience, a portfolio, and the skills to back it up.
