Stefanie Gabriele Sachsenmaier is Associate Professor in Contemporary Performance. She holds the roles of Research Degrees Co-ordinator for the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, Programme Leader of BA Theatre (Performance) and co-chairs the Faculty Ethics Committee.
Her research interests and publications relate to the processual in creative practice. Over ten years she worked closely with British choreographer Rosemary Butcher and has published a series of writings in this context. Further research areas include collaborative practices in performance-making including cross-cultural collaborations and the ways that performance practices extend into the socio-political context. Recent and forthcoming publications relate to solidarity practices and the politics of process in performance.
She forms part of the editorial team for Interventions (Contemporary Theatre Review) and sits on the editorial advisory board of Choreographic Practices Journal. At the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries/Mdx University she co-facilitates the Politicised Artistic Practices Research Initiative. With a background as a performer, she is also an experienced tai chi practitioner and instructor.
Ongoing PhD supervision in the areas of cross-cultural performance practices, performance and politics, dance and digital technology, performance and martial arts, practice research. I welcome new research proposals in these areas - feel free to contact me via email!
Teaching specialisms include experimental practices, performer training, critical theory, performance and philosophy, performance and politics, performance across cultures, practice research.
