Commenting on receiving the prestigious honour, Professor Ryan, who co-directs the Social Policy Research Centre based at Middlesex University, said: "I am very honoured by this award.

"It is recognition not just for my research and publications but also for the work I have done with colleagues here at Middlesex University over the last decade or more. I certainly could not have achieved this without all the support I have received from my colleagues."
