Director of Product Design and Engineering at MDX, Dr Vaibhav Gandhi, has been appointed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) as Deputy Chair of the Subject Advisory Group overseeing the Review of the Engineering Subject Benchmark Statement.
Dr Gandhi joined the MDX department of Design Engineering & Mathematics, Faculty of Science & Technology, in 2013. He was previously Programme Leader for BEng MEng Design Engineering suite of programmes and BEng/MEng Electronic Engineering. His research interests include brain-computer interfaces, biomedical signal processing, computational intelligence, computational neuroscience, user-centric graphical user interfaces, and assistive robotics.
QAA Subject Benchmark Statements describe the nature of study and academic standards expected of graduates in specific subject areas. They are used as reference points in the design, delivery and review of academic programmes.
Commenting on his new role Dr Gandhi said:
“I’m really proud to be part of the review Engineering teaching in higher education. The QAA leads the development of Subject Benchmark Statements to ensure the quality of academic courses across institutions in the UK.
“At the same time Middlesex is also reviewing all our engineering provision and this will ensure our students receive the most up-to-date teaching.”
The QAA reviews Subject Benchmark Statements on a cyclical basis to ensure they serve as a useful resource for discipline communities.
