Environmental Sustainability Concordat

Overview

Overview

Middlesex University London recognises that how we conduct research is as important as the research outputs. We have therefore become a signatory to the Concordat for the Environmental Sustainability of Research and Innovation Practice.

The UK research and innovation sector jointly developed the Concordat. It reflects a shared ambition for the UK to continue producing cutting-edge research in a more environmentally responsible and sustainable way.

Many funding bodies now require applicants to be signatories to the Concordat.

Aims

Aims

The Concordat aims to:

  • provide visible and credible leadership on environmental sustainability at every level within institutions
  • ensure that research and innovation are conducted in an environmentally sustainable way
  • establish new ways of working that allow researchers to achieve impact through climate-conscious, low-carbon approaches
  • ensure that research and innovation use net-zero or near-net-zero carbon infrastructure
  • support robust decisions about resources, circular economy principles, life-cycle costing, and supply chains
  • promote greater use of reusable products unless there is no viable alternative.

Signing the Concordat builds on our strong commitment to sustainability as a university. It also aligns with our strategic plan to 2031.
