Studying with us during coronavirus in 2021

Teaching and learning plans for 2021

How you'll learn when you start uni

We're back on campus for teaching and learning in Autumn 2021. Your timetable will be built around teaching time on campus with opportunities to use our professional facilities. Then you'll have online sessions for some activities where we know being virtual adds value.

We'll use technology to enhance all of your learning and give you personal support.

This isn't another year of pandemic-style teaching

This isn’t going to be like 2020 over again. After a year of teaching through the pandemic, we’ve learned even more about the best way to give you a quality education. If there are any changes to government guidance, we'll continue to teach you on campus with more restrictions in place, although more of your course will take place online.

Courses co-designed with students and staff

Our courses combine the best of our pre-pandemic teaching and learning, with online activities that were more beneficial to students when they were learning at home. Your learning is personal to you to help you fit uni around other commitments in your life.

What this means for you

We're here to help you understand how our teaching and learning plans will work for you.

What teaching and learning looks like

Live learning

  • Live, timetabled sessions that take place in-person on campus and online
  • Focused on building your community here and using our professional facilities
  • Interactive seminars, tutorials, lab sessions and demonstrations led by your academic
  • Collaborative group and project work led by you and other students

Learning in your own time

  • Online learning that puts you in charge of when you study
  • Activities that help you prepare for live learning and follow up afterwards
  • Curated resources from your academic like bitesize video lectures and podcasts
  • Independent study when you read, listen and reflect, including coursework assessments.

Help to prepare for uni

We don't want you to worry about school catch-up or coming back to education after a break. We’ll get you ready to study at degree level with our Ready for Anything preparation activities happening online and in-person on campus before the start of term.

Personal support during uni

We prioritise one to one support here like online personal tutoring with academics and support from students and graduates who have studied your course too. When you need it, our specialist teams provide academic skills and wellbeing support.

Technology that enhances your learning

We use tech to help you learn effectively and put you in control. You get online access to course materials and resources before, during and after sessions. We mix in some innovative new activities supported by tech too.

Employability skills and experiences

Our academics share their recent professional experience and knowledge of industry to develop your own skills. We have exclusive employability experiences, like our big careers festival, and our award-winning careers service is here to give you advice.
