Your future career

You'll have unlimited access to personalised careers and employability support to build your confidence, skills and experience, and get you ready for the graduate job you want.

Employability support in 2021

At MDXWorks, our careers and employability service, we understand that you might be feeling uncertain about the future. We want to reassure you that there will always be jobs for students and graduates.

We can help you with securing yours with:

  • Online support through video and phone appointments, email and web chat, and our employability portal
  • One-to-one advice, group workshops and webinars with guest employers
  • Programmes designed to boost your employability skills at different stages of your career journey
  • Some face-to-face sessions on campus, when it's safe and practical to do so.

Connecting you with employers

We make the most of our business links to put you in the room with top employers and get you closer to your dream career. Plus we'll make sure that you have the skills to tell them why they should hire you.

Employers that we work with include Warner Media, Microsoft, KPMG, GSK, Civil Service, Harper Collins, and Enterprise Rent a Car, just to mention a few.

Opportunities to engage with those employers arise during our events such as:

  • Gradstock Festival - our biggest event, with a live careers fair, employer talks, panel discussions and workshops led by industry leaders, work opportunities and much more
  • CareerConnect - a one day event offering students and graduates opportunities to engage with external organisations and university alumni to secure work-related activities
  • Pop-up series - a set of industry specific, bite-size sessions delivered throughout the year.

  • Working while you study

To support you in gaining valuable work experience and skills, our UniTemps service offers a range of rewarding, flexible and enjoyable part-time work opportunities both on and off campus.

All of our part-time jobs can easily be fitted around your studies and holidays.

  • MDXWorks programme

On top of one-to-one support and career guidance, we offer a menu of work-related activities designed to develop and nurture the new skills for your future, including mentoring, real-client projects, and business start-up support.

These are tailored to your year group, needs and aspirations.

  • Placements and internships

We can help you secure an internship or placement during your studies. The placement options that are available to you will depend on the course you study but these can include year-long placements, short-term internships, intensive one-week roles and community placements run by our Students' Union.

  • Practical employer-led projects

We're committed to providing you with real-world opportunities to demonstrate and develop further your key skills and learning.

As part of our collaborative experiential learning programme, we operate as an in-house agency that links Middlesex students with real clients to work on real projects and develop your skills in a safe environment before you graduate.

Entrepreneurship and self-employment

If you have an idea and the determination, we will empower you to bring your plan to life.

We provide a mix of resources and specialised support including a series of masterclasses with high-profiles entrepreneurs, workshops, mentoring opportunities and competitions for securing seed-funding.
