Practice-based learning is at the core of Middlesex university's learning and teaching model and of the student experience. What’s really important here is that students get the opportunity to work on real projects for real clients with real deliverables it's what brings their in-class learning to life. Students are looking for this experience, the businesses are looking for help with a real-life problem; could be launching a new product or creating a new app and the students are asked to create a communication strategy. As an example, I have come into this with not a lot of marketing experience and with marketing being just mostly a university thing I was so keen on using everything that I’d learned in classes in in this like practically and I got to do that and I felt really confident about everything that I’d learned. I have learned how to structure the business letters, I have learned how to write with some someone who's not from my country, because when I restructured my communication with anyone it was much easier to build relationships to make more and more connection’s which is important.

At Middlesex we are continuously working on embedding employability into the curriculum with the BA marketing program and particularly the marketing consultancy module as a key example of successful collaboration between industry and academia. Marketing consultancy is perhaps one of the most exciting and engaging modules that offer this chance this student to work with real organisations and work on real business issues so before this module I actually think I had quite a skewed understanding of what was involved in being a consultant I’d kind of confused the role with that of a creative another thing I learned was how fragmented the industry is and how there are so many different types of avenues that you could take, so what we see here at play whereby students can actually apply the theories they have learned in the classroom in relation to the tasks that they have to resolve with regards to the organisations and the companies I had moved from the Dubai campus like this class was one of the reasons I’d moved because I was like this could be such a good opportunity and it could be so interesting and it was exactly that it was it was a fantastic opportunity and just something that really built my confidence it's amazing you know to be able to do a module and get an internship out of it I think it's the most valuable thing that you can get.
