Biography

Dr Cristina Russo is Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Middlesex University. She teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in pharmaceutical chemistry, drug discovery and development, analytical chemistry, and pharmaceutical sciences, and supervises PhD and Master’s by Research students.

Dr Russo obtained a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, and completed a PhD in Health and Wellbeing at Sheffield Hallam University, where her research focused on quantitative MALDI-MSI studies of molecular movement in biological systems. She is also a licensed pharmacist and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Her research expertise includes drug identification, quantification and biotransformation in biological systems, mass spectrometry imaging, proteomics, biomarker discovery, and translational biomedical research. Current research includes the development of immunotherapeutic microneedle-based drug delivery approaches for skin cancer applications.

Dr Russo has published in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences, proteomics, and mass spectrometry imaging, and has presented her research at national and international conferences including BMSS and ASMS. She is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), British Mass Spectrometry Society (BMSS), and American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS).
