Claudio Morrison is Senior Research Fellow at Middlesex University Business School, London. He previously held a British Academy Post-doctoral Fellowship at Warwick University, Sociology Department, where he had obtained his PhD. Claudio’s area of expertise is comparative employment relations. Since 1997, Claudio has carried out case study research and ethnographic fieldwork in the former Soviet Union. His current research focuses on migration, industrial relations and organisational change in post-socialist societies. He is the author of A Russian Factory Enters the Market Economy(Routledge, 2012). His publications featured, among others, in Europe-Asia Studies,Post-Communist Economies, the British Journal of Industrial Relations and Industrial Relations: A Journal of Economy and Society, Work Employment & Society and the Journal of Organizational Change Management. His current interests include historical memory, Labour mobility and the development of the labour movement in Russia.

I have taught a variety of courses at Middlesex University. As a researcher, I find engaging with students is one of the best ways to communicate and develop research concepts and methods. My approach aims at stimulating students intellectually by encouraging them to think critically about subjects and reconnect academic knowledge with their lived experiences. To this end, I strive to nurture strong relationships with students and among them. In class, participation and exchange of ideas are fostered by using a range of learning methods including interactive lecture delivery, group and ‘in twos’ activities.

In addition to thought courses I had the pleasure to contribute guests lectures to students and PhDs about my research, fieldwork experiences and methods both in the UK (Reading, Glasgow, Warwick) and abroad (Padua, Napoli, Utrecht, Moscow, Kishinev).

Since 1997, Claudio has carried out case study research and ethnographic fieldwork in the former Soviet Union.
His research has focused on employment and industrial relations in post-socialist countries, management and industrial restructuring in the former Soviet Union, Labour Mobility and International Migration.
Individual projects have explored: enterprise management and social relations in post-soviet Russia; labour process and industrial restructuring in Russia and Moldova; institutions, path dependence and trade unions in post-socialist societies; international migration and labour turnover in post-socialist Europe and the EU.
His current interests include labour mobility and international migration; the economic geography of neoliberalism, nationalism and class conflict in Central Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union; .
Empirical investigation has focused on textile, clothing and construction industries.
Research collaborations included Warwick University (UK); Università degli Studi di Padova (Italy); the Centre for Social and Labour rights, the Levada Analytical Centre, the High School of Economics (Moscow).
Publications feature, among others, in Europe-Asia Studies, Post-Communist Economies, the British Journal of Industrial Relations and Industrial Relations: A Journal of Economy and Society, Work Employment & Society and the Journal of Organizational Change Management. Findings have been disseminated in Russian, Italian and English via a multiplicity of outlets including edited books, conference proceedings, practitioner and academic journals in Russia, Estonia, Moldova, Italy and the UK.
