Park Clinic Celebrates First Birthday

Middlesex University's integrative medicine clinic celebrated its first birthday this week with the local community, staff, students and community leaders.

The Colindale-based centre, called The Park Clinic, is a training and research facility for students studying Ayurvedic Medicine, Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Herbal Medicine. Integrative medicine combines these with evidence-based medicines to treat the person as a whole and focus on wellness and health.    Park Clinic First Birthday

Guests at the event were treated to tours, demonstrations, prize draws and the launch of a new book called Herbal Exchanges. The book, which looks at the rich heritage of herbal practice over 150 years, is co-edited by Middlesex Clinical Tutor Hananja Brice-Ytsma and contains chapters from previous Middlesex staff members Andrew Chevallier and Anne Stobart and Professor Michael McIntyre, recipient of an honorary doctorate and Chair of the European Herbal and Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association (EHTPA).

The event, which was attended by Middlesex University Chancellor Dame Janet Ritterman and the Mayor and Mayoress of Barnet, Councillor Hugh Rayner and Mrs Susan Rayner, was organised in partnership with our Student Complementary and Alternative Medicine Academic Society.

The clinic provides low-cost treatments for the local community to help manage various health conditions. Consultations at the clinic are taken by a student practitioner, under the supervision of an experienced qualified practitioner who is responsible for treatment plans. Consultations may also be observed by other student practitioners via a live video stream to a separate private room.

Middlesex student Karolina Raczynska said: "The new clinic has provided a vibrant, multidisciplinary and positive learning environment. In particular having access to a dispensary has made a big impact on the quality of learning."

Park Clinic Manager Pratibha Mistry said: "We have had a great response from the local community in our first year. We would like to build on this and encourage everyone to visit our clinic at Beaufort Park to benefit from the consultations and treatments on offer." Park Clinic 1st birthday
