About your course

In Year 1, you will build a strong foundation in the built environment industry, exploring construction systems, sustainability and digital technologies through applied projects and case studies. In Year 2, you will develop project management through collaborative, scenario-based learning that reflects real industry practice. In Year 3, you will take a more strategic role, leading integrated projects that bring together sustainability, digital coordination and project delivery. Throughout the course, you will learn through project-based and practice-led experiences, including live or simulated briefs, teamwork and industry-informed challenges.

Discover how creative thinking shapes the built environment. You'll investigate design ideas, explore research methods and use both digital and traditional techniques to communicate and test solutions to real built environment challenges.

Explore how buildings move from concept to completion. Through case studies and practical activities, you'll understand the people, workflows and decision-making that underpin successful construction projects.

Build practical digital construction skills using Building Information Modelling (BIM). You'll create 3D models, explore collaborative workflows and discover how digital technologies are transforming project delivery.

Investigate how sustainable materials, environmental systems and low-carbon design influence the built environment. You'll explore lifecycle thinking and the role construction plays in creating more sustainable places.

Explore the challenges facing modern cities and discover how sustainable planning, policy and stakeholder engagement contribute to healthier, more resilient urban environments.

Develop the core skills needed to manage construction projects, including planning, budgeting, quality, risk and scheduling through practical scenarios based on industry practice.

Take your BIM knowledge further by working with collaborative digital workflows, Common Data Environments (CDEs), coordination processes and clash detection used across contemporary construction projects.

Work collaboratively on interdisciplinary sustainability challenges, developing practical solutions that address environmental, social and economic issues facing the built environment today.

Showcase everything you've learned by leading an independent project from concept to delivery strategy. You'll integrate project management, sustainability and digital construction into a professional proposal that demonstrates your graduate capabilities.

Put your learning into practice during a year-long industry placement. Working alongside built environment professionals, you'll gain valuable experience, expand your network and graduate with an Advanced Diploma in Professional Practice.

Teaching

You'll learn through a combination of interactive workshops, seminars, project-based learning and collaborative studio activities, reflecting how professionals work across the built environment sector. Live and simulated industry briefs, case studies and practical challenges will help you apply your learning to real-world scenarios.

Whether you are studying full or part-time – your course timetable will balance your study commitments on campus with time for work, life commitments and independent study.

We aim to make timetables available to students at least 2 weeks before the start of term. Some weeks are different due to how we schedule classes and arrange on-campus sessions.

From your first day, you'll be supported by an experienced teaching team dedicated to helping you develop the academic, technical and professional skills needed for a career in the built environment.

Regular tutorials, small-group teaching and one-to-one guidance will help you build confidence and progress throughout your studies. You'll also have access to specialist software, technical support, library services, academic writing guidance and digital learning resources.

To support flexible study, you'll benefit from free 24-hour laptop loans with industry-standard software, free printing and campus-wide Wi-Fi, giving you the flexibility to work wherever suits you best.

Your learning will be assessed regularly and is made up of 100% coursework.

Assessment is designed to reflect the work you'll undertake in the built environment sector. Rather than relying on traditional exams, you'll complete practical coursework including project portfolios, case studies, presentations, reports and collaborative projects.

You'll develop project plans, sustainability strategies and integrated proposals in response to real-world scenarios, building the communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills valued by employers.

Throughout the course, you'll receive regular feedback during workshops, tutorials and project reviews, alongside detailed written feedback on assessments. Peer discussions and collaborative critique sessions will also help you refine your ideas and strengthen your professional practice.

Lasting between 9–12 months, this placement allows you to apply your knowledge in real industry settings, build professional networks and develop the confidence and experience employers are looking for. On successful completion, you will also gain an Advanced Diploma in Professional Practice alongside your degree.

Fees and funding

The following fees are for the 2027/28 academic year:

Changes to tuition fees from the 2027-2028 academic year for UK undergraduate students

UK Government information on tuition fees for UK undergraduate students in the 2027/2028 academic year

If your course starts on or after 1 January 2027 and you're eligible, you may need to apply for funding through the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE). Applications open in September 2026. This funding will also be available for eligible modules.

More about the LLE

The changes below will apply from 1 August 2027. The government intends to lay regulations implementing these changes in early 2026 and will be subject to Parliamentary procedure. Further information can be found at GOV.UK's tuition fee changes webpage.

For the 2027/28 academic year, it is anticipated that the maximum annual tuition fee applicable to UK undergraduate students for approved providers will increase to:

£10,050 for standard full-time courses
£12,060 for full-time accelerated courses
£7,530 for part-time courses.

This means that if you start your studies in September 2026 on a standard full-time course, you will pay an annual tuition fee of £9,790 for your first year which will then rise to £10,050 for your second year of study starting in September 2027.

Subsequent tuition fee rises for UK undergraduate students

Depending on the duration of your study, your tuition fees for subsequent academic years beyond the 2027/28 academic year may therefore be subject to further inflationary increases by the UK government in due course. This means that the fee set out above is likely to be increased again for the 2028/29 academic year.

Any annual increase in tuition fees as provided for above will be notified to students directly in writing at the earliest opportunity in advance of the academic year to which the rise may apply.
