Former Middlesex business student and leading financial expert Larry Campbell recognised for outstanding success
Middlesex University alumnus and Head of Financial Services Strategy at KPMG Larry Campbell has been shortlisted for a prestigious Study UK alumni award.
Campbell, who completed his master’s degree in Strategic Knowledge Management at Middlesex University, was shortlisted from a total of more than 1200 applicants for the Hong Kong alumni award.
“My master’s education with Middlesex University allowed me to effectively study the very profession within which I worked, and use academic discipline to refine the work I was doing with HSBC based out of London.” Larry Campbell, Middlesex University alumnus.
The Study UK Alumni Awards, created by the British Council, recognise outstanding success in entrepreneurism, professional achievement, and social impact by people who have studied at UK higher education institutions within the last fifteen years.
Larry’s UK education at Middlesex was part of a unique arrangement between himself, HSBC and the University to formally study the business impact of his work and document its applicability academically across the financial services industry.
“My master’s education with Middlesex University allowed me to effectively study the very profession within which I worked, and use academic discipline to refine the work I was doing with HSBC based out of London,” he says.
“It afforded me the ability to understand better the diversity of the multiple cultures from which my employee base was drawn world-wide and optimize their ability to contribute to the bank's advancement and financial success, not to mention client service.
“I found this to be unique and tremendously advantageous as my colleagues at the bank could see the day-to-day success of our efforts which we were in turn able to document, reflect upon and improve as part of my master’s thesis.
“My education also gave me the confidence to be a successful TED speaker.”
During his 14 years with HSBC, Larry set up a pioneering knowledge management and publishing division that grew to more than 500 people worldwide.
Now one of the leading global experts in the application of strategic knowledge management across financial services, Larry has his own consulting business that supports a variety of financial services clients across the globe.
As a guest lecturer at the University of Oxford, he also imparts his expertise in knowledge management and change management to other professionals and publishes research papers regularly.
His TED talk on design and security in banknotes, an area that he also supervised for HSBC, is considered unique in the field of banknote production.
