Hi, I'm Alison Broughton. I'm Director of Programs for Accounting, Finance and Economics. We're actually one of five universities in London where we work with the NHS. The students in Year 2 can apply to do a finance placement.

They can work for London Ambulance or they will be working for an NHS Trust. They've got one year of the three years they need for their work experience, so they can actually go on to become chartered accounts within two years.

I was impressed by the professionalism of the team. Practised professionals like myself who've come from working within industry, bringing that experience into our teaching. We're a real diverse mix and I really enjoy that.

At the library we have Bloomberg Terminal and other softwares that are used in the field right now, so the exposure and the learning opportunity on working and researching on those terminals was a big, big massive thing that helped me.

We have invaded employability sessions within undergraduate degree programs. We have an employer forum and they will talk about opportunities that they have and how to be successful in applications. We also work quite closely with professional bodies because we are professionally accredited and they'll do talks about the advantages of gaining professional qualifications and the differences between them.

The idea of all the support that we're giving is that the students gain information so that they are informed to make the right decisions when they leave. They look at your CV, they look at how your interview skills are, they teach you how to pass an interview.

It's all these are life skills basically. My favourite moment is graduation when I see these students develop with them, spend time with them and they've grown. They've got fantastic opportunities and they're going off to start their careers and that's always like a really amazing moment.

MDX’s strong focus on student employability isn’t just a slogan – it’s something I experienced first-hand. The support I received helped me secure my post-graduation career. The guidance I got to pursue a placement year was invaluable. That experience not only made my final year easier but also gave me an edge when applying for graduate roles.
