Class of 2014 joined by honorary graduates for festivities

The sun was shining on the latest additions to the Business School alumni family as the class of 2014 graduated on 14 and 15 July.

After collecting their certificates in the spectacular marquee set up adjacent to the Williams Building on the Hendon Campus, the students were then treated to a champagne reception in the Rickett Quadrangle, where proud friends and family also gathered.

Once drinks and cupcakes had been consumed, the graduates moved outside for photos and the traditional throwing of their mortarboards into the air.

"Passion and people create everything; money may follow – it doesn't lead"

Observing their celebrations was Anna Kyprianou, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Business School, who said: "What a proud day. It is a genuine privilege to join our graduates, their families and friends to celebrate their special day.

"Seeing the joy and pride in their faces makes all their and our hard work more than worth it. I wish each and every one of our graduates every success in their future careers."

Also receiving certificates were two honorary graduates: Sandra Polaski, Deputy Director-General for Policy at the International Labour Organization, and Nigel Wray, Chairman of the local Saracens Rugby Club.

"It's humbling to be recognised for this award," said Mr Wray, whose club is working closely with Middlesex University to support sport and education in the local community.

He also had a few words of advice for this year's alumni: "Make sure that you do something you have a passion for and not just go for money.

"Passion and people create everything; money may follow – it doesn't lead."

Ms Polaski added: "I am here to assure you that there is enormous potential for smart and ambitious young people to shape this world, to write the rules for a fair and rewarding global economy."

Previous Middlesex graduates who've gone on to great things in the world of business include Director General Communications at the European Central Bank Christine Graeff, who completed a degree in European Business Administration, and Selat Melaka Shipbuilding Corp Managing Director Kamrul Choudhury, who studied for a BA in Business Economics.
