Middlesex Law Society

Middlesex Law SocietyThe School of Law has a long-standing relationship with local lawyers through the Middlesex Law Society. Clinical Legal Education leader Associate Professor Susan Scott-Hunt is a former President of the Middlesex Law Society (MLS) and the School of Law continues to be represented on the committee of the local law society. A former Middlesex law student who is now a solicitor with an MLS member firm. These links assist us in facilitating the many opportunities for our students that are provided by the MLS.

Students are frequently invited to attend both educational and social events hosted by the MLS, at which speakers from the national Law Society and local lawyers often discuss issues of importance to the profession as a whole. Many MLS social events afford law students the opportunity to network with local lawyers and we have been successful in arranging a number of work experience internships with MLS firm members.

During the academic year, the School of Law hosts Continuing Professional Development seminars for local lawyers, while MLS lawyers also come to the University to speak in workshops as part of course modules or to give special presentations to students about their experience in various areas of legal practice.

Finally, every year the MLS awards a cash prize to the best student on year three of the LLB. The winner is invited to attend the MLS's main annual social event where the prize is formally presented.
