An ambitious dance performance collaboration between the UK, China and Taiwan, led by Middlesex University, is coming to the UK for the first time.

30 dancers, nine choreographers and 17 performance academics will join creative forces in London this summer to produce nine new experimental dances, helping to improve intercultural artistic relations between China, Taiwan and the west.

ArtsCross, now in its fourth year, is a major intercultural arts project which is led in the UK by Middlesex University professor of dance and head of the ResCen Research Centre Chris Bannerman. Major partners include the Department of Drama at Queen Mary, University of London, and in China, the Beijing Dance Academy and in Taiwan,Taipei National University of the Arts.

Professor Chris Bannerman said: “Since 2009 we have worked with some of the top performers and choreographers in China, Taiwan and the UK to create exceptional performances, which are at the forefront of cultural exchange across artistic and national boundaries.

“ArtsCross is a notable example of universities joining forces to break down cultural borders acting as thought leaders and agents of change, and making an impact in the wider world.”

ArtsCross London 2013 begins on 21 July at one of central London’s leading contemporary dance venues, The Place, and culminates in a performance there on 10 August and a conference at Queen Mary, University of London on 11 August.
