Hey guys my name is Novuyo Veddie. Today I'll be sharing my perspective on what it's like to study
at Middlesex University as a second year student and I hope that this will help you make the right
decision for you. You learn advanced stuff in a practical way and loads of teaching actually
happens outside of the classroom. This allows us the students to understand the way that the world
works and how we could be a better addition to it. The courses at Middlesex are relevant and up to
date because they're taught by academics who are on top of their game, working professionally still
while also doing innovative research. The lecturers are invested in your best note and progression.
In your classes you may have GLAs or SLAs and these are either students who've already studied the
course or students who are a year above you. They will be in your classes on a regular basis helping
you out. You can ask some questions about the student life or you can ask them questions about
what's going on in the class. They made me feel very very comfortable especially in such a new
and big, scary environment and I benefited a lot from just having them in the room. You also get
one-to-one support from personal tutors, they can advise you on what to do next and how to do it.
You can ask them about essays, research, or even just a project that you're currently working on
and they can give you the best advice on how to tackle it. The university encourages students
to find placements and as well work experience, employability classes, they will help you build
your CV, they'll help you prepare for interviews, and maybe even help you apply for the job that
you would love to be in. It also provides special career support for those who would love to start a business, so if you're interested in anything like that the university would be happy to help you
find your ground and also build your business up. Majority of the students and academics
are entrepreneurs which is very inspiring to be around because it encourages you to strive for
more and to see what else is out there and what else you can achieve. MDX University does provide
great mental health and wellbeing support whether you're having a tough time or you just need to
speak your thoughts to somebody. There is plenty of access and support systems that are available.
There's free counselling, so you can access access that through the website.
It is one of the most international universities in the world, there are 160 nationalities here in this one university.
It allows us to understand different cultures and perspectives and as well we have different
campuses in Dubai and Mauritius that has also given us opportunity to make friends across
the world. Middlesex has a welcoming community where you can be yourself and find your place.
There are clubs societies and multiple opportunities that you can partake in.
I'm personally a part of MDX FM which is a branch of student media and it has allowed me to not
only be openly creative, but it has also given me a platform to bring forth new perspectives.
Our campus is in North London, it is 15 minutes by underground to Camden and about 30 minutes
or less to Central London. The facilities here are pretty unbelievable, there's loads of green
spaces where you can hang out in the summertime and also the local places where you can get food,
which I personally think is the best part about it because you can always have something
different at lunch. There are loads of transport links which means loads of students commute
and study here while also living at home. There are also plenty of accommodations available here.
I personally stayed in Unite accommodation which is right next to Wembley stadium, this allowed me
to live out my best student life while also making a lot of different friends, a lot of people who I
now consider my family. That was just an intro of what it's like to study at Middlesex University.
